The last completed audit prior to this administration was for fiscal year 2016, and no approved budgets existed for the intervening years. Under the leadership of the current mayor and council, an annual budget has been adopted for each fiscal year. Additionally, this administration has received and reviewed independent financial audits for those same years.
The City of Fairfield has successfully exited bankruptcy and resolved key litigation matters. These milestones reflect our commitment to fiscal responsibility, effective governance, and restoring financial stability for the benefit of our residents.
The city made multiple efforts to secure ambulatory services from various providers. Unfortunately, these attempts were met with significant disregard and a lack of professionalism, making it impossible to obtain the quality of service our residents deserve. As a result, the city was compelled to explore alternative solutions.
In response, we established our own municipal ambulance service to ensure dependable and dignified care for our community. Today, this medical transport service is fully operational and not only meets the needs of our citizens but also generates revenue for the City of Fairfield.
Significant progress has been made to improve the appearance and safety of our neighborhoods. Several dilapidated homes that had long been eyesores were demolished, helping to restore pride and property value in our community.
There was a time when many of our streets were left in darkness. However, through renewed collaboration and trust-building efforts with Alabama Power, new LED streetlights have been installed across the city—enhancing visibility and improving public safety.
Additionally, street conditions were a major concern. With nearly every roadway in need of attention, street resurfacing became a top priority. As a result, numerous roads have now been repaved, further demonstrating our commitment to infrastructure and quality of life.
Crime is down overall since 2020. The Fairfield Police Department currently operates with 10 patrol officers responsible for traffic enforcement and city code compliance and we are currently recruiting to more officers.
To further support crime reduction, the city also implemented Flock Safety cameras throughout key locations. These license plate recognition (LPR) systems have enhanced our ability to deter and solve criminal activity, making Fairfield a safer place for all residents.
The City of Fairfield has made significant investments in community spaces and recreational facilities to include the roof replacement at Community Center, the playground at City Park, the ballpark at Willie Mays Park, and we were awarded a $11 million grant to develop a city-wide walking trail, promoting wellness, connectivity, and quality of life for our residents.
These improvements reflect our ongoing commitment to enhancing Fairfield’s livability and sense of community.
The Fairfield Master Plan was developed through extensive input from residents across the city and formally adopted by the City Council. It serves as a comprehensive policy framework to guide decision-making on land use, development, growth management, and capital improvements.
This plan provides a strategic vision for both public and private investment.
The Master Plan reflects the collective voice of the community and sets the foundation for a more vibrant, resilient, and forward-looking Fairfield.
